I have been a certified personal trainer for several years and my decision to become a personal trainer came about for a number of reasons. For starters, I'd been a fitness fanatic for over 15 years and couldn't imagine not having it in my life. But beyond my love for fitness, I wanted to be able to help other's achieve their goals, whatever they may be.


Let me start by telling you that I spent the majority of my life unfit and overweight. In high school I was a swimmer, competing primarily in butterfly until I got tendinitis in my shoulder and could no longer compete. So, I went to college and did virtually no exercise for four years. I graduated from George Washington University in 1988 with a degree in finance and spent the next several years working in banking, sitting all day long, partying after work and exercise.... well it consisted of an aerobic class at best, a couple of times a week, when I had no excuse not to attend. At 22, I was diagnosed with high cholesterol, IBS (irritable bowel syndrome) and suffering from a herniated disk, I sustained in a horseback riding fall when I was a child. As you can guess, I was far from healthy and fit!

 

When I had my first child, Erica, at 29 years old, I stopped working and decided I needed to do something other than sit in my Manhattan apartment with a new baby. I joined a gym, hoping not only to lose my baby fat, but maybe meet some people. Well, thats when everything changed for me.

All of a sudden, I started to see the baby fat come off. I started feeling better about me and I began my journey to become not only "thinner" but healthier. I started educating myself about nutrition, realizing how little I knew, and continued to do cardio, cardio, cardio until I lost all my weight and then some. My cholesterol went way down, my IBS flared up much less often, because I was EATING better and overall, I started to feel better about everything.

 

At 32, I had my son, Jonathan, and the process started all over again. Only this time, I got a personal trainer six weeks after I gave birth. Wow, what a difference! Not only did I lose the weight, but my body started to change. I became tighter and more muscular and my back even started feeling better, as I strengthened my core and all the surrounding muscles. It was amazing. I realized, hey, there's something to this weight lifting! Cardio is great, but in order to see changes, I needed strength training, as well.

 

All these years later, I am in the best shape of my life and have dedicated my time and efforts to helping other's learn what took me so many years to learn. Now I spend my days helping, motivating, and learning about my clients so I can help them succeed at losing weight, becoming more fit and overall healthy! Having been there, I understand the struggles, and my goal is to make it not only easier for them, but enjoyable, as well.


In addition to my passion for fitness, I learned over the years how important nutrition is in the mix. So, as a result I decided to get formally trained in it as it felt like the natural progression for me to be able to further help people in attaining their goals.


I received my training from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, where I was trained in more than one hundred dietary theories and studied a variety of practical lifestyle coaching methods. Drawing on this knowledge, I will help you create a completely personalized “roadmap to health” that suits your unique body, lifestyle, preferences, and goals. Whether it be weightloss or just becoming more comfortable in your body and mind, I am committed to helping you get there.
